For capsular repair of the hip capsule during posterior approach.
The STAR DRILL drills efficiently through bone, making a 2.4mm hole with a 1.6mm diameter shaft. The tip allows retrieval of TRANSOSSEOUS sutures through feel alone. You don't need to see the tip. It's orientation is identified from the drive hub. Sutures up to size 5 Ticron are easily accommodated. Besides retrieval, sutures can be pushed and released, all without "threading".
With it's 80mm reach, the knee ligament avulsions are quickly dealt with. Trans-osseous suturing becomes a breeze and a single step process. It is supplied non-sterile and is recommended for single use . ( Don't drill the prosthesis and metal with it!)
In >1400 primary consecutive Total Hip Replacements via the posterior approach, done by myself, there has been a 0% dislocation rate with no special precautions post-operatively.
A number 2 Fibrewire suture has been utilized to achieve this. Rehabilitation of these patients is faster, discharge home in 3.8 days and many drive at 2 weeks (although not recommended). Gait is close to normal at 5 weeks with no abductor weakness. For a technique brochure or more information, visit Enztec.
Quick, simple and a"no-brainer!"
